Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations
On the 11th December 2003, new regulations came into force that deal with the use of publicly available electronic communications services for any unsolicited direct marketing activity by telephone, by fax, by electronic mail (this means text/video/picture messaging and email) and by automated calling systems.

Data Protection Register
There are a number of bogus agencies currently mailing companies like yours with a rather threatening letter from the 'Enforcement Section'. It looks official, and you'll be forgiven for panicking. They offer to register your company for a fee of £95 + VAT!! Don't fall for it, and don't panic.
However, if you are keeping information about people, whether electronically, CCTV, or on paper, you must check whether you need to register, as failure to do so is criminal offence. The annual fee for notification is £35.
